The house and the mural
“La Sonrisa de Gardel” is a collective, self-managed work that I directed from one certainty: art is not only for artists.
I worked with 120 people between the ages of 5 and 80, trying to express the smile of culture: the one that tells us who we are and who our grandparents were, the one that makes us kin to one another and gives us the roots we need to grow.
I decided to take as a symbol the smile of Carlos Gardel, singer and emblematic figure of tango, whose voice remained forever tied to Buenos Aires. Known as the Zorzal Criollo, his figure spans generations and embodies an essential part of our cultural identity.
That eternal smile, which says so much about us and represents us, became the heart of the work.
La Sonrisa de Gardel! Our own Mona Lisa!
The circular shape allowed me to bring many different works together into one common work. Each participant created their own Gardelito using the trencadís technique: the same face, the same smile, and almost one hundred different ways of seeing it.
The part and the whole: every little piece of tile is part of a Gardelito, every Gardelito is part of the mural, and the mural is a little piece of Buenos Aires.
Up high, ten great women of tango crown the work like stars. And among the mosaics shines, traced by the hands of fileteado painter Luis Zorz, a phrase that runs across the mural: “Mi Buenos Aires querido, cuando yo te vuelva a ver, no habrá más pena ni olvido” — my beloved Buenos Aires, when I see you again there will be no more sorrow, no more forgetting.
Families, grandparents and grandchildren, couples, siblings and friends shared their time, their hands and their stories to build it. Every piece of tile holds a moment of someone's life.
Today the mural gathers countless moments of collective joy. Almost one hundred Gardels, all different — expressionist, pop, cartoonish, naïf, impressionist, naturalist — and, somehow, each one resembles the person who made it.
Bringing art to the street. Making life in the neighborhood more beautiful. Making the road more beautiful.
In every piece of tile we will see ourselves reflected. And time will keep embracing us.

The protagonists
Visual artist · Writer · Singer-songwriter · Teacher
Her career unfolds across different languages — drawing, painting, mosaic, literature and music — which over the years have intertwined into a single creative search.
Founder of Arte Inclán, she guides creative processes for children, young people and adults, creating projects where individual creation lives alongside collective experience. She is the author of La Sonrisa de Gardel, a trencadís mural declared a Site of Cultural Interest by the Buenos Aires City Legislature.
As a writer she published Ciudad torcaza and La mancha trascendental; as a singer-songwriter she released the album Utopías de Celeste. After surviving the 1994 A.M.I.A. bombing, an aesthetic of the broken and of rebuilding was born in her, in search of “the beauty of the wound”. For her, creating, writing, singing and teaching are different forms of one and the same need for expression.
Dancer · Dance teacher · Tango and salsa
Mora Noel Sánchez is a dancer and teacher of Tango, Salsa and Pilates. Her path began in classical ballet and expanded into different languages of movement, the stage and international experience, travelling to several countries to teach workshops.
She has starred in shows on Avenida Corrientes in Buenos Aires and is a semifinalist of a Tango World Championship.
In 2020 she took part in filming videos for singer Romeo Santos's concerts in the United States. In 2024 she joined the cast of El Último Tango, a show starring Hernán Piquín, with a season at the Teatro Apolo in Buenos Aires followed by a tour of Argentina and Uruguay.
She sees dance as a space for expression, connection and enjoyment, where technique meets body awareness and confidence in one's own movement.
Through her lessons she shares her experience and passion for dance, creating a place to learn, explore and enjoy movement.
Tango classes
Beyond the visit experience, Mora teaches tango classes for all levels, in the same space where tango is part of the walls.

Testimonials
Seeing the mural up close and ending up dancing a tango in the patio was the most authentic thing we did in Buenos Aires.
I took home my own mosaic, made with the artist who created the mural. It's not a souvenir: it's a little piece of the work.
A mother and a daughter open the door of their home and tell you the story of the neighborhood. That's not in any guidebook.
How to get here
The house is in the heart of a neighborhood tied to the origins of tango, just minutes from downtown.
